Abstract:The research on rural education of China has gone through 70 years of trials and hardships with rich harvests. The purpose of reviewing this process is to provide the necessary knowledge map for the future research on rural education in China. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China 70 years ago, the research on rural education in China has experienced three periods of development: long-term exploration, steady accumulation, and rapid development. The research themes of rural education in China involve the experience, logic on change, fundamental problems, value orientation, cultural mission, development strategy, funds investment, curriculum and teaching reform, professional development of rural teachers together with the relationship between rural education and rural social development, etc. With the exploration in the past 70 years, we’ve clarified the theoretical kernel of rural education in China, encountered practical problems and effectively promoted the development of rural society. Nevertheless, the study of rural education in China also highlights the following temporary problems, such as more appeal than practice, more review than creation, leaving rather than taking root in countryside and more educational researches than rural researches. China’s rural education research in the new era should be based on the strategy of revitalizing the socialist countryside with Chinese characteristics. We should actively carry out the research on the value choice of rural education in the symbiosis of nature and humanity, development strategy of promoting Internet & rural education revitalization, experiments on vitalizing rural education in new era, future development of deepening the integration of urban and rural education mode. In this way, we’d promote the revitalization of rural education in the new era as well as further promote the balanced and full development of it.
