Abstract: In the previous studies on Khampa history from the end of the 19th century to the early 20th century, domestic scholars mainly utilized Chinese and Tibetan historical documents, while few used first-hand foreign documents and touched on Sino-Western cultural exchange. Based on previous studies, this article, discusses the papers and books on Khams and their publishing in the West written by North Americans who travelled and lived in Khams before 1919 by mainly using English historical documents. It will be of academic significance to studying both modern Khampa history and the history of Sino-Western cultural exchange from the global perspective.
