From June 21 to 23th, 2019, the Twelfth Southwest Forum on Chinese Ethnic Studies, sponsored by the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Southwest University for Nationalities, was held in Southwest University for Nationalities. More than 80 experts and scholars from 43 universities and research institutes, such as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chinese Tibetan Research Center, Sun Yat-sen University, Chongqing University and the Central University for Nationalities, participated in the forum, and more than 70 papers were received.
Liu Yubin, President of Southwest University for Nationalities, Wang Yanzhong, Director of Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Professor Hao Shiyuan, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, addressed the opening ceremony respectively.
The forum has conducted deep discussions and exchanges on the theme for "revitalization of shared home and high-quality development of rural areas". Experts and scholars such as Zha Luo, Sun Zhenyu, Yang Zhengwen and Xi Rao Nima made keynote speeches in the forum, combining their respective research expertise and academic thinking. In the form of sub-venues, the forum has also conducted some discussions around such as ethnic culture and interaction, research and review for ethnic policies, path selection of economic development in ethnic areas, history of ethnic history and ethnology, and collation and research of historical records and documents in Tibetan areas.
It is reported that since 2004, the total 11 Southwest Forum on Ethnic Studies in China have been held together, gathering a large number of experts and scholars from related disciplines and research fields in China, which has greatly strengthened academic exchanges with universities, research institutes with experts and scholars. Following the successful hosting of Kaili College in Guizhou Province in 2017 and Yunnan University in 2018, the twelfth forum was held by the SWUN.
This forum aims to promote academic colleagues to discuss in depth the major issues in the new era, such as the development prospects of Chinese ethnological anthropology in the period of historical convergence, the precise eradication of poverty in ethnic areas and the construction of a well-off society in an all-round way, as well as the governance of modern society and the construction of the consciousness of the Chinese national community. Through in-depth exchanges, consensus building, for deepening understanding and expanding the research field of Chinese ethnology, the development of Chinese ethnology anthropology was further promoted in the new era.
