On December 19th, 2018, a Seminar on the 40th Anniversary of the Construction and Development of Tangjiahe National Nature Reserve was held in Tangjiahe, Sichuan Province, jointly organized by Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences and Tangjiahe National Nature Reserve Management Office. Professor Li Houqiang, Secretary of the SASS Committee of the CPC, attended the seminar and delivered speeches. Experts and scholars from National Park and Nature Conservation Commission, Tsinghua University, Beijing Forestry University, Sichuan Agricultural University, Xihua Normal University, Mianyang Normal University, Yancheng Normal University, China Giant Panda Conservation Research Center, Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, and the WWF attended the seminar.
Professor Li Houqiang pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that the whole Country should strengthen the construction of ecological civilization system and implement the strictest ecological environment protection system in a grand gathering to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the country's reform and opening-up. Tangjiahe, as the Sichuan’s represent, is the treasure land of ecological culture and the biological genes. Studying Tangjiahe can provide us with innumerable ecological answers. He also pointed out that the construction of ecological civilization system has a long way to go forward. In the future development of Tangjiahe, the natural scientists and social scientists need to study how it can make greater contributions to the pilot project of Giant Panda National Park and the comprehensive construction of a well-off society in Sichuan Province and how China's natural protection and play an important role in the process of socialist modernization. For strengthening exchanges and close cooperation, the SASS is willing to provide intellectual services for the construction and development of protected areas.
In the light of the 40-year development history and the construction under the National Park system, the participants held discussions and exchanges on the analysis of the survival status of rare protected animals such as giant pandas, antelopes, Sichuan golden monkeys, musk deer, and the integration, the community, environmental education and natural education, protection management, scientific research monitoring, community co-construction and public education, etc. and a series of opinions and suggestions on ecological environment protection was discussed.
