The Symposium on Relations between China and Poland&Sino-Central and Eastern Europe under the New Situation held in Chengdu

On July 12th, 2019, the "Symposium on Relations between China and Poland and Sino-Central and Eastern Europe under the New Situation" was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The symposium was co-sponsored by the Polish Institute of International Relations, Sichuan University, and the Institute of International Relations, Warsaw University. More than 40 experts and scholars from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, the Foreign Affairs Office of Sichuan Province, the Consulate General of Poland in Chengdu, the Consulate General of Hungary in Chongqing, universities and think tanks in Britain, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Latvia and Serbia, as well as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Sichuan University, Tongji University and Guangdong. from universities and research institutes, such as the University of Foreign Trade and Economics, Hebei University of Economics and Trade, attended the symposium.

 

Ambassador Huo Yuzhen, Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for China-Central and Eastern European Countries Cooperation, said that since 2012, China's relations between Central and Eastern European countries have developed rapidly. Greece's accession has upgraded cooperation mechanism, which shows that the mechanism conforms to the situation of cooperation between China and the region. Under the new situation, we should grasp the general trend, adhere to multilateralism, adhere to innovation-driven and carry out practical cooperation.

 

Tang Rui, deputy director of Sichuan Foreign Affairs Office, said that Sichuan Province had made important progress in interconnection, economic, trade and human exchanges in response to the orientation of opening up to the west, supported and participated in cooperation with practical actions, especially the Chengdu-Europe Express Railway connecting Chengdu and Roz, Poland, and would continue under the new situation.

 

Ms. Katarzyna Wilkowiecka, Polish Consul-General in Chengdu, happily recalled the smooth development of relations between Poland and Sichuan and other local levels in China in recent years, especially the fruitful exchanges in economic, trade and cultural and educational fields. She was confident of cooperation between China and Poland at all levels.

Ms. Vanda Széll, the director of the Secretariat of the Consulate General of Hungary, said that the current Sino Hungarian relations were at the best level in history. The Belt and Road initiative was highly compatible with the Hungary's policy of opening to the East, and that it was time to strengthen direct education cooperation and cultural exchanges between Chongqing and Hungary.

 

Professor Huang Ping, Director of the European Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote speech on the current international situation and China-EU relations. He said that no matter how the international situation changes, China and Europe have a solid foundation for common cooperation. Both sides should continue to adhere to win-win cooperation, safeguard multilateralism and promote global governance towards openness, inclusiveness, equality and reciprocity.

 

The academic speech part of the conference revolves around four themes. The first theme is "International Background of the New Era", chaired by Professor Song Zhihui. Professor Geoffrey Harris, Free University of Brussels, Belgium; Professor Mirror, European College of Bruges; Professor Igor Lukrchi, University of Lubljana, Slovenia; Professor Kong Tianping, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Professor Lukasz Zamecki, University of Warsaw; and Professor Jakub Zajczkowski, Dean of International Relations, University of Warsaw On "China-Central and Eastern European Diplomatic Relations", "EU Factor in China-Central and Eastern European Cooperation", "Central Europe Region between Marginalization and Sinicization", "European Change and China-Central and Eastern European Relations", "EU's Position in 17+1", "The Impact of the Rise of Indo-Pacific Region on China-Europe Relations", "America in China-Central and Eastern European Relations" Excellent speeches were made on issues above.

 

The closing ceremony was chaired by Professor Song Zhihui. On behalf of the organizers, contents and fruitful results of the conference were summarized. He hope that experts and scholars will continue to care about and support the research on Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, further tap the potential of domestic and foreign exchanges and cooperation in the field of international relations, and launch a higher achievements.
