On May 18th, 2019, the Fifth Annual symposium of the Academic Committee of the International Confucianism Federation for a study on the regional, national and cultural universality of Confucianism, was held in Pengzhou, Sichuan Province. The symposium was co-sponsored by the International Confucianism Federation, the International Confucianism Institute of Sichuan University and the Publicity Department of the Pengzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC. More than 70 experts and scholars from the International Confucian Federation, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Shenzhen University, Sichuan University and other institutes attended the symposium.
Milanjia, Minister of Publicity Department of Pengzhou, pointed out that the annual symposium will focus on the study of the regional, national and common characteristics of Confucianism and Chinese culture. It will discuss the significance of Confucianism in the era and show the latest achievements of Confucianism in academic research and certainly promote traditional culture and local culture for Pengzhou City to rovide valuable intellectual support.
Professor Li Cunshan of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that the Central Committee of the CPC attaches great importance to the inheritance and development of the excellent traditional Chinese culture represented by Confucianism, and the symposium conducts deep discussions and exchanges on the regional, national and common characteristics of Confucianism.
Scholars made excellent speeches on their latest research results. Professor Wu Guangchang of Renmin University of China talked about the origin, connotation, basic spirit and contemporary value of Zhejiang Studies, and discussed the origin and evolution of Zhejiang Studies in theory. Huang Yushun, professor of Shandong University, pointed out that human civilization needs human vision, common civilization needs common creation, and civilization creation needs civilized dialogue. Cai Fanglu, Chief Professor of Sichuan Normal University, made a discussion on the characteristics of Ba-Shu philosophy, pointing out the outstanding characteristics of Ba-Shu philosophy, such as the integration of the three religions for the emphasis on practice and the emphasis on human feelings and keeping pace with the times.
Professor Shu Dagang, Dean of the Institute of International Confucianism, Sichuan University, made a summary of this meeting. He pointed out that the conference was rich in content and splendid, reflecting the vigorous development of Chinese Confucianism, inheritance, innovation, and practical spirit. In the future, the development of Confucianism should be developed from the regional and national study of Confucianism to the general study of Chinese culture, and then to the study of the global community of human destiny.
