On Sept. 5th, 2017, the Second Overseas Chinese New Media Forum was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, with the intention of expanding overseas internet resources and magnifying Chinese influence. The theme was “One Belt and One Road” & Overseas Chinese New Media, and it attracted more than 300 experts and scholars from 42 countries and regions to attend.
Editor-in-chief Wang Shucheng of People’s Daily Overseas Edition hosted the opening ceremony. “2015 was the 30th anniversary of the founding of the journal, General Secretary Xi made important instructions and specified targets, so for the past two years, we had already formed stereo publicity matrix through integrating; and according to Xi’s request, we’d introduced the new concepts, new ideas and new strategies in the areas of governing the country of the Party Central Committee to overseas, actively participated in international public opinion struggle for major domestic and international events and hot topics, and played an important role in promoting media integration and development, expanding overseas media cooperation and optimizing and innovating discourse system,” he said.
“Overseas Chinese media have long been adhering to the excellent tradition of Chinese nation, and actively disseminating China’s voice, and it has developed to be an important force in international press circles,” said Deputy Director Guo Weimin of the State Council Information Office of the PRC, “in times when One Belt and One Road gradually becomes global consensus and China is increasingly connected with the world, in particular, overseas Chinese new media should grasp the historic opportunity and strengthen exchange and cooperation, innovate model of growth, initiatively share Chinese Story & the Silk Road Story, for devoting to be a disseminator and promoter for “One Belt and One Road” construction.”
Besides, Minister Gan Lin of the Publicity Department of Sichuan Provincial Committee of CPC, Deputy Director Tan Tianxing of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, and Vice President Kang Xiaoping of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and so on attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
The forum had one theme forum and five parallel forums, around hot topics in the progress of “One Belt and One Road” construction and media development, such as Media Convergence, Technical Innovation, Green Finance and Artificial Intelligence, etc.
