From Nov. 6th to 14th, on behalf of Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences (the SASS), Vice-president Guo Xiaoming with his delegation visited the University of Adelaide in Australia.
As the only Chinese representative, the SASS attended Seminar for Immigrant and Population Problem under the Background of Urbanization, which was hosted by the University of Adelaide. Guo was the keynote speaker for Historical Development of Chinese Poverty Reduction Strategy and Policy Choice in the New Period, and then he delivered a speech titled the Current Situation of the Development of Urbanization in Western China.
In turn, the delegation visited the Liberal Arts Department, School of Social Sciences, and School of Humanities. Moreover the both sides did deep researches on Project Cooperation, Taking Turns to Host Academic Forum, Cooperation to Produce High Level Academic Achievements, the Exchange of Researchers, and Postgraduate Education; and then they reached a nearly agreement on the intention of cooperation.
Discussion for the Intention of Cooperation
During the visit, the delegation visited Hahndorf (a typical immigration town), Murray Bridge (a factory that urban immigrants were the main source of workers), and Jacob Creek Grape Farm. They surveyed the issues on site, including interaction, fusion and cultural inheritance between distinctive ethnic groups and local society, the social inclusion, cultural fusion and residence partition of urban immigrants, the integration of urban and rural population flow, health problems of the floating population and so on.
