The Online Literature Center of China Writers Association released the 2021 Blue Book of Chinese Online Literature (hereinafter referred to as the Blue Book) in Zhengzhou, Henan Province on Monday. The Blue Book comprehensively reviews the overall development of online literature in 2021 from five aspects: writer creation, organization construction, theoretical commentary, industry development and overseas communication.

According to the Blue Book,in 2021, the mainstream and quality of online literature was accelerated, and the creation of realistic themes was further deepened. More than 270,000 realistic works were added to major literature websites, with a year-on-year growth of 27%; Nearly 220,000 new sci-fi works were added, with a year-on-year growth of 23%; More than 220,000 historical works were added, with a year-on-year growth of 11%.

In 2021, the organization level of the network writer team has been continuously improved, and the cohesion and centripetal force have been significantly enhanced. More than 1.5 million new registered authors and 130,000 new contracted authors have been registered on 45 major online literature websites across the country. Most of the new online literature authors are from Generation Z (those born between 1995 and 2009).

In 2021, theoretical commentary played the role of value guidance, spiritual guidance and aesthetic enlightenment, and commentary ecology became healthier. Theoretical review timely summarizes the current situation of the development of network literature and study the development trend of network literature; The talent training and team building of network literature theory criticism are constantly strengthened. The construction of evaluation system and critical standard of network literature has been further promoted, and the research has been further deepened. The works of outstanding network have been promoted and commended and literature writers have played an exemplary and guiding role.

In 2021, the development momentum of industry transformation and upgrading continued, and IP adaptation became more diversified. The annual revenue of China's 45 major online literature websites exceeded 20 billion yuan, with 178.7 billion words added; There are more than 100 TV shows adapted from online literature IP. Among the top 10 TV shows in the total broadcast index, online literature IP accounted for 60 percent

In 2021, more attention was paid to the international communication of online literature, and the forms of "online articles going abroad" became more diverse. The global influence of Chinese online literature continues to expand; The composition of overseas readers is diverse, with higher education level, and most of them are female. A localized overseas communication system has been initially established. In 2021, the overseas market size of online literature exceeded 3 billion yuan, with 145 million overseas users, covering most countries and regions in the world.

Since 2018, the Online Literature Center of the China Writers Association has released the Blue Book of Chinese Online Literature every year, and it is the fifth time so far. The Blue Book of Chinese Online Literature takes the member units of the national key online literature websites joint conference as the main statistical object. Through accurate and detailed data and professional and in-depth analysis, the Blue Book strives to find new problems, reveal new trends, and provide references for the development of the industry and management decisions.

After the Blue Book was released, the Online Literature Center of China Writers Association organized representatives from the front lines of network literature creation, communication, research and industry to conduct in-depth discussions on "how to improve the quality of online literature creation" and "how to promote the integrated development of online literature industry".
