On June 1st, 2019, The Tibet, Qiang Nationality and Yi Nationality Corridor Development Forum and the Eleventh Joint Conference of Heads of Social Sciences Academies of Five Provinces in Western China, co-sponsored by seven social science academies including that of Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Tibet, Guizhou and Yunnan, was held in Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences. The purpose of the meeting was to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's series of important guiding spirit for the national work, strengthen the economic and cultural interaction and integration of the Tibet, Qiang Nationality and Yi Nationality Corridor in the new era, strengthen the research in the fields of cultural industry, poverty alleviation and national harmony, and promote the development of China's ethnic regions and frontier regions, and the exchanges between various ethnic groups.Nearly 100 people attended the meeting, including leaders, experts and scholars from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and social sciences academies of Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Tibet, Guizhou and Yunnan, China Tibetology Research Center, Minzu University of China, Sichuan University, Southwest Minzu University, Sichuan Normal University, Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences. The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Xiang Baoyun, president of Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences.
Li Houqiang, secretary of Committee of Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences of The CPC, said that the Tibet, Qiang Nationality and Yi Nationality Corridor is a ethnic region with the most complex geographical environment, the most concentrated biodiversity and the richest cultural diversity. It has a long history, deep accumulation, rich connotations, great cultural resources and unique status and special value in the development of China's national cultural map and national cultural industry. academies of social sciences in western China should work together to build an open, multi-level, wide-area, network-based research community for the Tibet, Qiang Nationality and Yi Nationality Corridor, and provide intellectual support for economic and social development in ethnic areas in new era.
The forum set up four sub-forums: “Poverty Alleviation”, “National Harmony”, “Rural Rejuvenation” and “Cultural Industry”. Chen Furong, secretary of Committee of Gansu Academy of Social Sciences, He Zukun, president of Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences, Huang Yong, vice president of Guizhou Academy of Social Sciences, and Yang Liao, vice president of Shaanxi Academy of Social Sciences, presided over the sub-forum. The participating experts closely focused on the theme of the forum and conducted in-depth discussion on the poverty alleviation, ethnic exchanges, rural revitalization, social governance, and other major practical and theoretical issues from the disciplines of politics, economy, culture, society, religion,etc. .
Experts attending the conference believed that the Tibet, Qiang Nationality and Yi Nationality Corridor is an important channel for national exchanges and integration in China's history. It is also the region with the most cultural diversity in China but relatively lagging economic and social development. The development of the Corridor in the new era is still facing many problems and challenges. In-depth observation and in-depth research are required to provide intellectual support and practical guidance for the development and advancement of the Corridor. The successful convening of this forum has played a positive role in promoting social publicity of the Tibetan, Qiang and Yi culture, promoting the construction of the Tibetan, Qiang and Yi cultural industry corridor, and enhancing the exchanges among Tibet, Qiang Nationality and Yi Nationality.
The forum received more than 80 papers by experts and scholars. After an anonymous review and conference review by experts, 76 papers were selected for the conference. Among them, 20 papers were awarded first prize, second prize, third prize and excellent prize. The leaders of the organizers presented awards to the winners.
